چکیده

The surface runoff process in fluvial/pluvial flood modelling is often simulated employing a two-dimensional (2-D) diffusive wave approximation described by grid based digital elevation models (DEMs). However, this approach may cause potential problems when using the 2-D surface flow model which exchanges flows through adjacent cells, with conventional sink removal algorithms which also allow for flow exchange along diagonal directions, due to the existence of artificial depression in DEMs. In this paper, we propose an effective method for filling artificial depressions in DEM so that the problem can be addressed. We firstly analyse two types of depressions in DEMs and demonstrate the issues caused by the current depression filling algorithms using the surface flow simulations from the MIKE SHE model built for a medium-sized basin in Southeast England. The proposed depression-filling algorithm for 2-D overland flow modelling is applied and evaluated by comparing the simulated flows at the outlet of the catchment represented by DEMs at various resolutions (50 m, 100 m and 200 m). The results suggest that the existence of depressions in DEMs can substantially influence the overland flow estimation and the new depression filling algorithm is shown to be effective in tackling this issue based upon the comparison of simulations for sink-dominated and sink-free DEMs, especially in the areas with relatively flat topography.

Digital surface model extraction with high details using single high resolution satellite image and SRTM global DEM based on deep learning

The digital surface model (DSM) is an important product in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing and has variety of applications in this field. Existed techniques require more than one image for DSM extraction and in this paper it is tried to investigate and analyze the probability of DSM extraction from a single satellite image. In this regard, an algorithm based on deep convolutional...

MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF THE EFFECT OF FOAM DEGRADATION ON MOULD FILLING IN THE GREY IRON EPC PROCESS

In this investigation a new model was developed to calculate gas pressure at the melt/foam interface (Gap) resulting from foam degradation during mould filling in the Lost Foam Casting (LFC) process. Different aspects of the process, such as foam degradation, gas elimination, transient mass, heat transfer, and permeability of the refractory coating were incorporated into this model. A Computati...

Parallel Priority-Flood depression filling for trillion cell digital elevation models on desktops or clusters

Algorithms for extracting hydrologic features and properties from digital elevation models (DEMs) are challenged by large datasets, which often cannot fit within a computer’s RAM. Depression filling is an important preconditioning step to many of these algorithms. Here, I present a new, linearly-scaling algorithm which parallelizes the Priority-Flood depression-filling algorithm by subdividing ...

A Reliability based Modelling and Optimization of an Integrated Production and Preventive Maintenance Activities in Flowshop Scheduling Problem

Traditional scheduling problems with the batch processing machines (BPM) assume that machines are continuously available, and no time is needed for their preventive maintenance (PM). In this paper, we study a realistic variant of flowshop scheduling which integrates flow shop batch processing machines (FBPM) and preventive maintenance for minimizing the makespan. In order to tackle the given pr...
